Christ centered learning for Christ centered living.
First St. John Dayschool provides Christian Education in a child-centered environment that promotes problem solving, creativity, cooperation, and individual choice.
The faculty and staff recognize that it is a responsibility and privilege to be trusted by God and our school families to help mold and develop the character of each student.
First St John will NOT delay any of our programs regardless of the status of any of the public school systems. When public schools delay, we will still begin our classes at the designated times.
If Toledo Public Schools close, ALL of our classes will be cancelled, except the Extended Care Program.
The Extended Care Program will ONLY close when Lucas County declares a Level 3 travel alert.
Although we may be open during conditions that may be questionable, we leave it solely up to the parent’s discretion if their child attends.
Please listen to your radio or watch television during these times for specific notices about the status of First St John DaySchool.
Meet Our FSJ Dayschool Administrator – Carol Felderman
Below is a short biography of Carol Felderman, our Administrator:
I was born and raised here in East Toledo. I attended the Oregon Public Schools. From there I went on to The Ohio State University and graduated from Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska. I have spent 25 years teaching in Lutheran Schools, during which time I also served as an Administrator at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Holly Hill, Florida and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Roseburg, Oregon. I have taught for the Department of Defense Schools in Germany.
I enjoy traveling for fun (just about anywhere), going on volksmarches (USA, Germany, and France) for exercise, and reading to relax. To prepare my retirement skills, I have taken up quilting and crocheting. I am married to Jeff Felderman from Bellevue, Iowa, whom I met while teaching in Hawaii. He is finishing his job in Virginia Beach and will join me later this fall.
I look forward to working and worshiping with all of you here at First St. John’s!

First St. John Dayschool + Amazon Smile
Do you use Amazon for your online purchases? Considering that most of us do, we have partnered with Amazon Smile to help you give back to First St. John Dayschool! The process is simple: click here to link your Amazon profile to Amazon Smile and 0.05% of all of your purchases will come directly back to the school. Also, while a little confusing, remember for future purchases to log into smile.amazon.com (as opposed to regular amazon.com) to continue to support this worthwhile cause. Letter of Appeal
It is our privilege and honor from God to be guiding your children through these pivotal years in development. In order to continue to do so, we ask you to read this letter from Reverend Robert S. Noble (Mason’s grandpa) asking you for your continued support in this vital ministry. You can read the full letter here: 2014 Letter of Appeal.
“Over forty years ago the congregation at First St. John saw a need to serve their community with a faith based preschool and daycare center. Through the years literally thousands of families have entrusted their children to begin their education at First St. John’s. We all know and understand that in these first formative years patterns for lifelong learning are set. The students of First St. John’s not only receive this important educational foundation, but they also receive these educational principles rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
